And I know that the record which I make is true; and I make it with mine own hand; and I make it according to my knowledge.1 Nephi 1:3
Hello, I’m Jacob.
Like Nephi, I believe I was born of goodly parents. My mother and father have taught me many things. I have seen many afflictions, felt the love of the Lord in all my days, and have an ever increasing knowledge of the mysteries and goodness of God.
My knowledge of the gospel feels monotone compared to Nephi’s vivid and colorful portrayal found in the scriptures. We all have to start somewhere though. Although I grew up a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I often feel brand new. I struggle to read and study scriptures, I struggle to study General Conference talks, I struggle to wake early and attend church each Sunday, and I certainly struggle with my personal afflictions and trials.
However, I keep trying.
This blog is my latest attempt to reinvigorate that feeling of my love for the gospel. Like Nephi, I know that the gospel is true, I write this record with mine own hand, and I make it according to my knowledge. I do this with hope to build my own testimony, and to inspire those who read.
And now, my beloved brethren, all those who are of the house of Israel, and all ye ends of the earth, I speak unto you as the voice of one crying from the dust: Farewell until that great day shall come.2 Nephi 33:13
Each of us has a story and reasons for why we do the things we do. Nephi’s story is personally recorded in his journal. He knew that his words would help those who read it in our time. I believe that it is also important for us to keep a journal. A place for our thoughts and feelings so that we can always remember and reflect on our lives. And so that those after us can learn from our mistakes, and be inspired by our triumphs.
And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.Ether 12:27
Although most days I feel weak, I know that through the power of Jesus Christ, He can make my weak things become strong.
